Cabo Pulmo

Cabo Pulmo is home to a 7000 hectare marine reserve which includes a rare 20,000 year old reef, one of only three in North America. It was granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2008. The reef, once overfished and in decline is now considered one of the most important marine conservation successes in the world. This is largely attributed to the local population of 120 people who lobbied to protect the reef in order to secure a future for future generations. In fourteen years life in the ecosystem increased over 400% and has one of the largest concentrations of marine mammals in the world. Lagos del Mundo

“The ancient objects our grandparents possessed were handcrafted by artists from all over the country with great knowledge and commitment to simple traditional techniques. This heritage and their characteristic human approach is what we believe is often times missing in modern design in general. That is the place from where Lagos del Mundo was born, with the mission of creating simple contemporary objects made by traditional processes. We collaborate with local artisans working meticulously in adapting our modern style with their traditional handcrafted techniques preserving the uniqueness of each object.” – Lagos del Mundo

One of the most beautiful hand made processes is the properly called Cesteria. This art of braiding natural fibers forming cute objects mainly used for storage, has its mexican origin in the prehispanic period and since then, the technic has remained solid. There are around 20 or more botanical species like sugar cane, pine, or palm tree they can be made of, the latter gives our Cesto a very flexible texture & heroic personality

”Stumbling into the courtyard at Drift on a Thursday night feels like walking into your most stylish friend’s backyard party.” GQ Magazine, Top 5 Local Bars

What our guests are saying

Drift is centrally located in the arts district, walking distance from great restaurants and galleries. The space is charming, with an incredible attention to style and design. The Drift team were friendly and gave great suggestions for local spots to check out. The bed was super comfy, everything was clean, and the courtyard mezcal bar was an added bonus. -Kasey Caletti
Es un lugar INCREÍBLE!! Un hotel sencillo muy bonito cómodo amigable único en su clase! -Tatiana Bilbao
This place is awesome! We had such a great time hanging out at the bar with the other guests and having drinks by the bonfire! Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The shower was amazing! Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location. Would have stayed there forever! -Emilie Laflamme
An oasis in the historic center of San Jose del Cabo. Think luxury hostel, but with private accommodations and a high end vibe. Friendly, attentive staff. Minimalist design. Thoughtful details that transformed our stay into an experience we won’t forget. If your looking for an all-inclusive mega resort experience, look elsewhere. If, however, you consider yourself to be more of an independent traveler that appreciates all of the authentic experiences that can only come from talking to locals and fellow like-minded wanderers, you will love Drift! -Shannon Hanney
I don’t even know where to begin! This place is amazing and was truly better than I even imagined after wanting to stay here for quite some time. The design, the details, the friendless and ease of the staff, the amenities, and location all made for a very memorable stay. Two nights turned into several more and we are already planning our next trip. The sense of traveller community really topped it off as well, as we ventured out almost each day with friends we made at Drift. I hope this place never changes!! -Justin Grajski
Once we arrived at Drift, we knew we made the right decision. It was such an intimate setting that allowed us to interact organically with the other guests. The Mezcal tasting bar open every night created the perfect setting for getting to know the staff, owner, and others staying at the property. The entire space is beautiful and provided just what we needed. If we come back to the San Jose del Cabo area, we will definitely stay here! Thanks for a wonderful experience! -Rachel Lowe
The DRIFT philosophy is to provide hotel quality accommodation but without any of the expensive frills. Beautifully designed with open communal spaces, its the perfect place for independent travellers who’d rather grab their own beer and sit around a communal table than sip cocktails at a fancy hotel bar. I cannot speak highly enough of the crew and the vibe they’ve created. -Ash Berman
Absolutely loved my short stay at Drift and the concept of the place! The staff is really friendly and helpful and provides a lot of information about the town in a handy booklet. The whole building is very beautiful and comfortable, and the minimalist chic vibe creates a great ambiance. The neighbourhood is a great one for exploring restaurants and galleries and was really calm, safe and relatively easy to get to coming into town with a rental car. Overall, it really provided an exceptionally comfortable stay, was super clean…and is a great addition (and alternative) to the regular Cabo accommodation scene!! I definitely recommend this place to anyone specifically wanting to stay in a young, welcoming, modern, chic boutique like place, rather than a large-scale resort, while experiencing Mexico! I only wish I could have stayed longer, as during my short stay I was unable to fully appreciate the space!! -Tracy B
Angel and Cristian were lovely, accommodating hosts and the Drift provides the perfect, hip, central and chill home base to explore the best of Baja. We’ll be back! -Megan Clancy
We loved everything about our stay at Drift. It was a very comfortable room, the property is exactly as the photos indicate – stylish, simple and in harmony with the surrounding environment. There are 8 unique, private rooms. The mezcal bar is stocked with some small batch offerings and a great way to meet other guests. My husband and I spent 8 nights here, and it was the most relaxing holiday we’ve ever had. Thank you to the brilliant team of 5 that make this place so welcoming. We hope to be back someday! -Kate Gardner

The team at Drift is super chill and hosts a great party on Thursday night. Staying at Drift adds a little bit of style and authenticity (smack in the middle of town) to your trip to Los Cabos. -Jon Mansell

Everything is as described. It’s definitely in its own genre of places, and we loved it. Catch the sunrise from the rooftop! -Ben Mosley

Our fourth trip back to Drift. Call us biased, but this place is magic. But what really struck Dawn and I during this most recent stay was the staff culture. Angel, Christian and Mauricio are an incredibly fun trio, especially in the evenings when the bar is open! -Jordan Kallman

Drift est certainement une des meilleures adresses en BCS. Les descriptions et photographies sont fidèles à la réalité du site. Le staff et le propriétaire sont exceptionnels. C’est une experience a vivre. -Francois Cavalier

Just returned from 7 awesome nights at Drift! I have travelled to the southern Baja 5 times now and stayed in a wide variety of places big and small. This was by far the best experience yet. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The rooms are large and spotless and very comfy despite the industrial design. The gallery district where the hotel is located is such a nice change from resort row. You actually feel like you are in Mexico! I would advise renting a car for your stay here as beach access is limited but other than that the location has all the amenities needed. The Thursday night party was such a blast, make sure you try to catch it. Also make sure to ask Angel where to find the tamales in the central square, they are out of this world! We will definitely be back. -Dave Yeager

Amazing and relaxing space, gorgeous minimalist rooms, and friendly helpful staff. We are already planning our return! -Christi Johansen

Drift was the perfect spot for a getaway! It exceeds my expectations in every way, beautiful style, great accommodations, helpful staff, peaceful vibe, incredible views, and excellent location. Located right downtown San Jose makes it easily accessible to whatever you need, while still being close enough to the beach. Drift makes you feel at home away from home in your intimate oasis! If you never left drift your whole stay in San Jose, you would not be disappointed, but I recommend taking advantage of all the things to do in the area. I visited as a single female traveler and it was the perfect balance of being able to have my peaceful alone time while also meeting other guests to have fun in a community feel! Our host nd the rest of the staff are fantastic and extremely kind. We’ve named DRIFT our home away from home! DRIFT is a must! -Nicolas Portanet

Amazing space, beautifully designed in an excellent location, and the host(s) are fantastic/thoughtful and super interesting. Recommend using Drift as your base and exploring the nearby region with a car rental. 4×4 not completely necessary but next time I’m going for one; some roads are fairly sketchy in a compact car. Cabo Pulmo and Santiago waterfalls are awesome adventures doable in a day. Chileno Bay for easy beach days. Food: there is just too much to say. -Brian LeRoux

Best place in San Jose!! Clean, great location, very friendly staff, plus the opportunity to meet other travelers. Josefina Bolufer

Drift is nothing short of exceptional. I went back a second time, this time with a larger group of friends, and found that it had only improved since our last visit. The property is simple and tastefully executed, the staff is accommodating and professional, and the location in the heart of old San Jose cannot be beat. There is no question I’ll be back–so long as I can still get a reservation as word gets out about Drift. -Andrew Schapiro

Drift was absolutely lovely! It is a large part of what made our stay in San Jose Del Cabo perfect. The place is exactly as it looks in the images but even more striking in person. It is on a quiet street in the heart of San Jose Del Cabo and an absolutely tranquil oasis! -Sarah Green

This is an absolutely amazing place perfectly located in the beautiful old part of San Jose los Cabos with the best vibe I could think of. Drift is a place that is somewhere between design hotel and hostel perfectly suited for people that attach importance to puristic style (puristic in a very positive meaning) without any unnecessary and distracting chichi. I really wish there would be more places like this around the globe. The owner and his great team do everything making you feel welcome and at home. Thank you so much for this experience. We would definitely recommend this place and try to come back soon. -Rainer Jaeger

This place is so beautiful and I had a wonderful time staying there, my only regret was that I couldn’t stay longer. Everyone there was so kind and they have done an amazing job thinking out the place. It really is as lovely as the photos. -Amalia Marino

The perfect spot in Baja. -Robert Girvin

Great place to stay if you are looking to bypass all the resorts and save money. the drift was very clean, neat, and welcoming. in a great location for shopping and dinning and touring, i will surely be returning the next time i come to cabo! -George Crenshaw

Amazing. We dream of getting back to Drift sooner than later and love following them on social media and watching all of the improvements they have made since our stay. -Heather Chase

Don’t look any further, stay here! Especially if you appreciate good design , friendliness and proximity. A great place to start your Baja adventure. Have fun! -Leslie Guthin

We stumbled on Drift when booking a last minute trip to Cabo, and we are lucky we did. It was one of the main highlights of our trip–beautiful, clean, minimal rooms with just the right attention to detail. This place is the perfect combination of serenity and community. We will be back without question, so long as we can get in when word gets out about Drift. -Andrew Schapiro

This place is a hidden gem in an historic quaint village. The place is really beautiful with the rooms looking out onto a courtyard that has a thoughtfully-designed Mexican aesthetic. The whole place is very trendy and well-suited to young travelers looking for somewhere a bit special yet still reasonably priced. We ended up meeting a German couple there and spent the day on the beach with them – so it is a great place to meet like-minded young travelers. Would highly recommend this place! -Annette Ellis
